What's changing

Highlights of the proposed changes compared to the current by-laws (adopted November 2021). This summary is provided for convenience — the full proposed document below is authoritative.

• NCSBA affiliation: the association is formally named as a Chapter of the North Carolina State Beekeepers Association, Inc.
• Calendar-year fiscal year: the fiscal year moves from June–May to January–December. The annual budget is presented in January (was May), the audit report in February (was June), and the annual financial report in March (was June).
• Term limits: the President and Treasurer may serve at most three consecutive terms, and are eligible again after a one-year break.
• Set meeting schedule: general meetings are set for the first Thursday of each month and Executive Board meetings for the third Thursday, with defined quorum rules for both.
• New Conflicts of Interest article: anyone with a financial or personal interest in a matter must disclose it and abstain from discussion and voting.
• Membership updates: family membership is defined as up to two individual memberships plus minor children at the same address, voting is limited to individual, life, and permanent members in good standing, and the suspension and termination process is spelled out in more detail.
• Officer eligibility: any active individual member in good standing may be nominated for office, including by self-nomination.
• Committee updates: standing committees are now Apiary, Special Events, Fundraising, and Advertising, with expanded record-keeping and inventory responsibilities for chairpersons.
• Treasurer duties: the Treasurer is now also responsible for maintaining the Chapter's compliance with state and federal nonprofit tax requirements.
• Removed: the dissolution clause donating assets to the Wilson County Agricultural Extension Center, and the general cleanup renumbers articles and modernizes wording throughout.
